Once on This Island, which tells the story of a star-crossed love between a dark-skinned girl and her light-skinned aristocratic boyfriend on a Caribbean island, was the Broadway debut for Tony Award-winning songwriters Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty (Ragtime, Seussical, Anastasia).
The Off-Broadway musical will give its final performance June 6.
Other big winners included the Deaf West revival of Spring Awakening and Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o for her Great White Way debut in Eclipsed.
